Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB)

Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a genetic condition where your skin falls off at the slightest touch, leaving your body with painful blisters and sores.

The video below is of a boy named Jonny Kennedy who passed away in 2003 at the age of 36. Please be warned the video is disturbing. Jonny was a brave young man and may GOD rest his soul in peace.
Subhanallah! May God make our tests much lighter than this and alhamdullilah for my good health.

Too Young?

How young should you start to train your kids to start practicing the Islamic rituals? Wait a minute Islam has Rituals? Yes I said Rituals that is; Fasting, reading/memorizing the Qur'an, Praying five times a day, giving to the less fortunate, loving the prophets and the most important of all Loving Allah and trusting in him. Thus the word Islam Meaning Submission, Submitting yourself to the will of God.

So how young is too young? Well most Muslims like the age seven. Mainly because there is a hadith that the prophet said to teach your children the prayer when they are seven.Well, some people Mashallah, have started to train their kids even earlier than seven. Simply because kids at a younger age, tend to imitate what parents do, and this is where you want to come in and make it a habit. Now if you don't have time to teach them, we have so many Muslim scholars now a days Mashallah, please put them to work and have them earn some extra money, as we all know our scholars are the least paid in this society today.

The picture above is of a 6 year old named Fatema with her brother who is 4 and they were visiting an orphanage in Kibaha, Tanzania. She has memorized some surahs, has fasted ramadhan and her 4 year old brother has fasted also and has memorized one surah. Mashallah!

This is Fatema's Brother. Mashallah!

Its doable people, this 4 year old just beat many adults who can't even read Al Fatiha. Please visit Fatema's site at Just Giving Fatema-Chandoo (Click the link) for her full story and donate to her charity of choice.

Remember parents have an obligation to teach their kids and not leave it to society. I leave you with this quote from the Quran. O you who believe! Save yourselves and your families from a fire whose fuel is man and stones. (Quran Chapter 66: 6)

Salaam Aleykum

May God's Peace and Blessings be onto you.

Waislamu Tanzania Wagoma Kushiriki Sensa 2012

Kikundi cha waislamu Tanzania wagoma kushiriki sensa itakayofanyika Mwezi wa nane tarehe 26 mwaka 2012.

Hizi ndio sababu zao:

Nchi imeshafanyiwa sensa mara sita 1948, 1957, 1967, 1978, 1988 na 2002. Majibu yalikuwa kama hivi.

Mwaka                                     Waislamu      Wakristo     Wapagani

Wanataka kiwekwe kurekebisha makosa yaliyo pita. Habari ndio hiyo.

Not Ready to have kids yet?

Well you might want to rethink that decision. The study below tells another story.......

A genetic study has added to evidence that the increase in some mental disorders may be due to men having children later in life.
An Icelandic company found the number of genetic mutations in children was directly related to the age of their father when they were conceived. One prominent researcher suggested young men should consider freezing their sperm if they wanted to have a family in later life. The research is published in Nature.

According to Dr Kari Stefansson, of Decode Genetics, who led the research, the results show it is the age of men, rather than women, that is likely to have an effect on the health of the child.
"Society has been very focused on the age of the mother. But apart from [Down's Syndrome] it seems that disorders such as schizophrenia and autism are influenced by the age of the father and not the mother".

Dr Stefansson's team sequenced the DNA of 78 parents and their children. This revealed a direct correlation between the number of mutations or slight alterations to the DNA, of the child and the age of their father. The results indicate that a father aged 20 passes, on average, approximately 25 mutations, while a 40-year-old father passes on about 65. The study suggests that for every year a man delays fatherhood, they risk passing two more mutations on to their child.
What this means in terms of the impact on the health of the child is unclear. But it does back studies that also show fathers are responsible for mutations and that these mutations increase with age. And, for the first time, these results have been quantified and they show that 97% of all mutations passed on to children are from older fathers. Read the full story here...

Eid Mubarak!

Its official! No Moon sighted in the Middle east and the west on Friday, making Eid to Fall on Sunday as that puts us on a full 30 day month fast. The moon sighting committees in the UAE and Saudi Arabia have confirmed that the Shawal moon was not sighted on Friday Evening. The Fiqh Council of North America concurs as well. Tanzania Seems to follow suit, nothing has been announced by BAKWATA(Baraza Kuu la Waislamu Tanzania) on the moon sighting. So Kesho kufunga kama kawa.

However, in the Nothern tribal areas of Pakistan (N.Waziristan and Shabqadar) are celebrating their eid on Saturday. The local Islamic scholars in the main mosque of Miranshah collected six evidences of moon sighting from six different witnesses, who claimed to have sighted the moon.  So Eid Mubarak to folks in the Northern Area of Pakistan, for the rest of you folks, Ramadhan is about patience, so persevere for another day.
On a side note: The UAE and Saudi Arabia have declared a 10 day public holiday. Shiiish! Must be Nice.

The Tasbih Prayer

Do you know what the Tasbih Prayer is? I didn't until recently, and when I asked around about it, it seemed a lot of folks didn't either. So what is it? I mean we know when someone does the tasbih after prayer, you know your alhamdu's, astaghfiru's , etc. But now there is a prayer for it? Turns out yes.

Prophet Mohammed(S.A.W) once told his uncle; "O my uncle! Shall I not give you a gift? Shall I not show you something by means of which Allah Ta' ala will forgive your sins, the first and the last of them, the past and the recent, the unintentional and the intentional, the small and huge, the secret and open?"

The prophet then taught him the Tasbih prayer. He then advised him to offer it daily if possible, and if not then every Friday or once a month or once a year or at least once in one's life time. This prayer is offered in four Rakkas, and in each Rakka you will recite the Tasbih as follows;

"Subhana Allah Wal Hamdullilahi Wa laa illaha ila llahu Wallahu Akbar".

The Goal is to recite it 300 times in four Rakka's. So You say it 15 times after you say your Surah Al-Fatiha and a surah, then 10 times at Ruku,  10 times after coming out of Ruku, 10 times during sajdas. Basically, for every position you change, after you say your normal Tasbihs there, then you say this Tasbih.

I leave you with a beautiful Tasbih recitation. Enjoy!

Time for Zakat Ul-Fitr

Zakat ul-Fitr is charity given to the poor at the end of Ramadhan. Its purpose is to circulate wealth within the community, so that the poor can also be able to celebrate Eid at the end of Ramadhan. Every person is required to donate for Zakat ul-Fitr before the morning Eid prayer. Its best to give to the mosques as they know where it is needed the most.
Found this on Mobilize.org, how true is this?

Now, if you are feeling a little more generous, below are some of the relief organizations that you can choose to give your Zakat ul-fitr on top of your local mosques of cause.

1.American Relief Agency for the Horn of Africa (ARAHA) at www.araha.org.
2.Islamic relief worldwide at www.islamic-relief.com/
3.Al Maun at http://www.almaun.org/

UJI au CHAI?

What's your preference?

Uji wa dimu na pilipili manga

vs
Chai ya Maziwa iliokolea viungo

Sijui hii mila ya kunywa uji ulianzia wapi, since mahindi ni zao geni kwa sisi wa Tanzania. Yes Ugali was never invented by us, Maize was introduced to us by the Mzungu. But as long as I can remember Uji has been a traditional starter meal during Ramadhan. The saying goes, you need to start the stomach with something warm, which translated to blah blah and blah to me. I remember during my boarding school days, they will give us Uji and dates. I ate the dates and gave away my Uji of cause, to the next eagerly awaiting uji lover. Peeps started seeking me out for it, since they knew I never liked the stuff. So there I said it, I prefer my nice cuppa tea over Uji. Nothing against the uji, for the uji lovers out there, it is delicious, just not my preference. You?

Have you given your Zakka?

So have you? If not I suggest you hurry it up fasta fasta! The word deed or action has been mentioned in the quran 360 times. So what are you waiting for?If you are working and are making a living, then you can give to the poor. There is another person out there, who is less fortunate and does not know where he will get his next meal.

These are some of the conditions our poor live in.
Sometimes giving is not all about money, even transferring of knowledge on information that the poor don't have is good enough.

How about our brothers and sisters fleeing for survival in Myanmar?

And the folks in Somalia?

Below are some of the Quran verses on giving in the way of your Lord.

You shall not attain righteousness until you spend out of what you love (in the way of Allah). Allah knows whatever you spend. [Quran Chapter 3:92]

And let not those deem, who are niggardly in giving away that which Allah has granted them out of His grace, that it is good for them; nay, it is worse for them; they shall have that whereof they were niggardly made to cleave to their necks on the resurrection day; and Allah's is the heritage of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is aware of what you do.[Quran Chapter 3:180

Verily, those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and humble themselves (in repentance and obedience) before their Lord, - they will be dwellers of Paradise to dwell therein forever. [Quran Chapter 11:23]

You get my gist, please help the poor and start with your own.The best help is the one where you teach them how to help themselves.

Curiousity

Yes We have landed in Mars. Man's fear of the unknown has made him so insecure that he won't sit tight and cultivate earth Nooo, its just not in our nature. We are a curious creature that we need to know what we don't know. We still want to know where are we really from and is there life out there besides ours? Nasa sent a rover to Mars and called it Curiosity.

The rover landed safely after a complicated landing.  What is its Mission? To search for extraterrestrial life and why Mars turned from a wet planted into a dry and cold one. So now one wonders, if the building blocks of alien life form is found, what can man do with that information? Would we try to communicate with it? Really? You tend to wonder sometimes what our motives are. We watch a lot of Steven Spielberg movies that put a lot of ideas in our heads of alien life forms, at the same time, there is that fear of opening a Pandora's box. What if, what we find should have been left WELL ALONE? Are we our own source of destruction? Or am I simply reading to much into this? Personally, I am just as curious as everyone else and a little excited. As a Muslim though, all these questions have been answered for me, but as a student of science I am definitely curious of their findings and how this research ends.

Here you go, The NASA Images of Mars reported by the Curiosity rover
Did I mention I was a science Freek?

Toyota RAV4 and LEXUS Recall

Toyota is recalling 778,000 from the US of RAV4 Sports Utility and Lexus sedans. The company claims that there is a problem with the rear suspension arm. Toyota says that if the nuts on the rear suspension arm were not tightened properly during a wheel-alignment service, then rust can form with use causing the rear suspension arm to wear and separate. The affected cars are the 2006 to early 2011 models. Toyota is developing a fix and will notify owners to make an appointment with a dealer to apply the fix once implemented.
